On Thursday 20th March it was the Spring Equinox. This is one of the Celtic 8 wheels of the year that are celebrated and at Heartwood we like to mark these dates. The Spring Equinox is one of the two dates in the year when there is a balance of exactly 12 hours of darkness and light. It is a time to welcome the growing light and a time of reflection and balance. We celebrated this at Heartwood by planting lots of seeds, creating a mandala and having a fruit and chocolate fondu! Other things we enjoyed were digging holes for the new wood storage shed, a group job of moving the newly axed birch wood to store it for next year's firewood and chatting around the fire at lunch.
On Wednesday, we checked in on the rescued frogspawn from last week and were delighted to it is still developing and looking healthy in our new frog nursery. We cleared more leaves from the pond area too. Some of the students used their sawing and splitting skills to make wooden mallets. More peeling was done in preparation for the new wood storage shed and we were thrilled to see the wood anemones in full bloom. We even saw the violet coloured ones too!
